As a young boy in Poland St. Maximilian Kolbe wanted to become a soldier. But as he grew, he felt the call to the priesthood. He eventually became a Franciscan friar (a soldier for God) and devoted himself to the spiritual war. He founded his own army called the Milita Immaculatae which used forms of new media to convert sinners and make the Immaculate Heart of Mary known and loved. Eventually, St. Maximilian volunteered to die in place of a family man in the German death camp of Auschwitz during World War II. It can be said that St. Maximilian Kolbe literally was, “Catholic to the Max.” (Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” ~ John 15:13)
